All Grain Recipe Kit - Spice Beer - Country Bumpkin Ale

Country meets Halloween! It is not something the majority of us celebrate, but why not enjoy in on the action and make an off-season pumpkin spice beer to celebrate anyway.
This recipe calls for butternut pumpkin (squash) and some spices if you have them. Unleash your inner country bumpkin with a new yearly tradition. Maybe throw on some Outlaw Country and yeehaw your way down on your quad bike to the ol' pumpkin' patch.
Collins Dictionary defines a Country Bumpkin as someone who is 'awkward, simple and rustic'. If that isn't a proud description of 95% of us homebrewers, I don't know what is.
Don an Akubra, chew on a corn husk and get brewing!
Inspired by Halloween, but enjoyable all year round, The Country Bumpkin Ale is a tangy delight.
A traditional recipe that has evolved over the years, we highly recommend adding spices to this recipe to, well, spice it up!
We recommend trying any or all of the following. For best results, add the spices and flavourings to the last five minutes of the boil, but feel free to experiment with adding spices during fermentation (like a dry hop) instead!
Cassia Bark adds a lovely, earthy cinnamon flavour - around 25g is the sweet spot
If you're feeling particularly bold, a couple of Star Anise adds a fantastic licorice taste and aroma - not for the unwary though!
All Spice powder adds a flavour reminiscent of nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon
Nutmeg works beautifully as well
Ginger powder combines beautifully with the subtle richness of this brew
If adding spices, you may like to use a hop sock or Hop Spider to help contain the ingredients.

1kg peeled, diced butternut pumpkin - readily available from your local supermarket. To prepare the pumpkin, dice (if not pre diced) and roast for 45 minutes at 180C. Try sprinkling with sugar or maple syrup for a little extra caramelisation!
