Named after a hop growing region in New Zealand, Motueka is a relatively new variety bred by crossing a selection from the New Zealand breeding program with a Saaz-type variety. With moderate alpha acid levels and relatively low cohumulone content, Motueka is purported to be an excellent all-purpose hop, providing a solid yet smooth bitterness from early kettle additions with notes of lime from additions made later in the process.
Formerly known as Belgian Saaz or B Saaz, Motueka is a premier New Zealand hop. Developed by HortResearch, this triploid was bred from Saaz and an unnamed New Zealand breeding strain and lends itself well to Lagers, Pilsners and Belgian Ales.
It makes an excellent dual-use hop, carrying an exciting fruit aroma with refreshing notes of tropical fruit and citrus. It can be used at any point during the brewing process and works well in sweet, malty and fruity beers. Massachusetts brewery brewmaster Jack uses Motueka in a Maibock and Sierra Nevada brewery also debuted their Southern Hemisphere Harvest fresh hops ale in April 2014 using Motueka, along with Southern Cross, as its finishing hops.

"Can't get enough of this hop."
"Beer turned out great"
"Pardon the kiwi accent pun in the title. I tried Motueka as the bittering addition with Hallertau MF as the flavour and aroma hop and it worked nicely I guess as it's grown from noble Saaz and an NZ variety. Looking forward to trying Motueka as bittering, flavour and aroma additions next time."
"Great price and selection of hops and I’d like to buy other products I can’t get locally but the delivery prices don’t make it affordable. Cheers"
"Used 100g in a dark IPA and the flavour was outstanding highly recommend"
"Huge Lime flavour profile, worked well in a Pale Ale"
"Used in a Pilsner and a hazy ipa so far and it’s been great. Keen to use it more"
"Love this hop. Bittering, aroma and flavour. Make a malt heavy DIPA, add 250-300g of this wonder for a beer that will bring a smile to your face. There was a brewery that did a good Deed when they made a single hopped Motueka beer. Now make your own."
"Great Price for this NZ Hop"
