Poor design and materials led to breakage 3 times

"Bought this, it broke on the first usage. Thought it was a fluke, so I bought two more and again, neither lasted through a single brew day. The polycarbonate material is not strong and broke where it attaches to the camlock. Any small torque on the connection instantly snaps the tube; even routinely replacing or rotating the pump arm will do this. The part should be redesigned so that the metal fitting falls inside the metal bracket where it attaches to the brewzilla body. This way, any force would be transmitted to the robust metal bracket rather than the thin plastic."

Must Have

"Makes it so easy to see the water level. Should have bought it earlier."

Bought this for a mate

"Bought this for a mate with a Gen 3, he loves it"

ok

"Its too short for use with the extension and the longer version doesn't come with the bottom fitting so you'll have to buy both. Recommend using some conduit to protect it"

Not quite there

"I quite like my Brewzilla and love the idea of this site glass as it allows me to see levels when brewing indoors with a stainless lid and steam condenser attached. Brewing in Canada where outdoor temps can be below freezing half the year (and sometimes -30C or colder) I need to brew indoors without filling the house with a gallon of wort steam - attaching a stainless lid with a steam condenser works great for that, but then I'm flying blind as to what the levels are during the boil. Also, the sight glass (once calibrated) is much easier for getting accurate initial fill and post-boil measurements. Unfortunately there are a few flaws in this product. First, the upper bracket for the stainless tube it replaces is too small in diameter to use with this tube (I ended up using a ziptie as a temporary workaround). But with polycarbonate as thin as is used here, it really needs a better bracket that extends upwards and anchors the stainless portion of the sight glass hardware (or camlock fitting above it) to the rest of the Brewzilla. Even though I was careful, my sight glass tube snapped off just as I was finishing my first mash-in - luckily only the very top 3/4 inch snapped off (cleanly) so I could reuse the top stainless hardware and I happened to have an Oetiker clamp the right size to replace it with - crisis averted and I was very relieved the tube didn't break further down and send gallons of sticky mash water everywhere! Also, my lower clamp leaked during my initial post-installation test, like others reported - looking closely the clamp used had been kinked slightly and so wasn't applying even pressure all around the tube. I was able to clip it off and replace with a new Oetiker clamp and that solved that problem. So while this is a very useful modification for anyone really needing a sight glass, as is it's so fragile that it's rather hazardous. Improving the quality control on the clamps and including a properly engineered upper mounting bracket - and better yet, finding thicker polycarbonate - would make it a 5-star product worth 2-3 times the price."

Works as advertised

"Totally leak-free after several uses. Once I gauged the sight glass with levels indicating the number of gallons of water, I found it to be more accurate than the old "mark the mash paddle" method, especially during turbulent boils when the surface would move up and down quite a bit. The gauge level stayed fairly constant."
