Achieving the proper level of dissolved oxygen in wort is one of the most important factors in a successful fermentation. Something so simple like aeration/oxygenation that could turn your beers around from under attenuated messes to sheer golden delight.
Not to be confused with oxygenating beer. They key difference is that you're oxygenating your homebrew before you pitch the yeast to undergo fermentation.

For a single batch lets say 20L at 1.048 SG at 18°C. You would want 8ppm minimum to 12ppm of oxygen. Shaking the fermenter vigorously will get you only to 8pmm on your strongest day.
But with pure oxygen and the 2 micron wand, you would oxygenate at a flow rate of 1L per minute for 60 seconds.

General rules of thumb:
Medium strength worts (Above 1.060): 8-12ppm ~ Flow Rate: 1L per minute for 60 seconds per 20L.

Lager yeast strains: 10-14ppm ~ Flow Rate 1L per min for 120 seconds per 20L

Strong worts (1.100 and above): 14ppm ~ Flow Rate 1L per min for 120 seconds per 20L
Plus a second dose of 14 ppm 12-18 hours after the yeast is pitched (the time required for at least one cell division to have occurred)

How to get started:
Boil your air stone for a few minutes and sanitise the attached wand with ethyl kill sanitiser spray.
Open the regulator to release the oxygen slowly.
Dial in on the flow meter to 1L per minute.
Once you have achieved this, submerge to the lowest part of your fermentation vessel.
Starter your timer and keep a close eye for bubbles breaking on the surface of your wort.
If they are, then you may need to oxygenate a little bit longer and/or decrease flow rate.
Once done remove the wand with the gas still on. Once removed from the liquid close the valve on the regulator
Rinse and boil the air stone to keep it clean and sanitary.
Avoid touching the stone with bare hands. The oils in your hands can sometimes clog up the tiny pores on the stone.

Safety Message
Please be very careful when using pure oxygen. It is highly flammable and if ignited will burn furiously. It should go without saying, but please don’t use it anywhere near a naked flame (or any other kind of flame for that matter)

This kit bundle includes:
1 x KL25324 3.3L Oxygen Disposable Gas Cylinder (O2)
1 x KL02165 Regulator for Oxygen - M12 Thread
1 x KL06880 duotight – 8mm (5/16”) Female x FFL Female Thread (to fit Regulator)
1 x KL13185 Oxygen flow meter Including duotight - 8mm (5/16) x FFL
1 x KL02097 2 Micron Oxygenation/Aeration Wand Kit
1 x KL24631 duotight - 8mm (5/16) Screwlock x 8mm (5/16) Elbow
1 x KL18012 Rigid Plastic Joiner 6mm ID x 8mm OD (5/16) x 50mm Long

Also available as a 0.5 Micron Oxygen Wand Complete Kit
0.5 micron stones are recommended for faster uptake of O2 in the wort, however they are more prone to clogging if mishandled.
2 microns stones will not work as efficiently, but are slightly easier to manage.

Fantastic for lagers

"Have used to make great lagers. I used an extra elbow to help with pressure on the duotight o-rings. Big fan of the rod to help get the stone to the bottom of the wort."

Q&A

Hi. Can I store this in my shed? Like any Aussie shed, it can get pretty warm in summer.
No dramas!
